Firestone Baptist Church and What We Believe About the Bible

In the Bible, God has revealed the story that underlies every true story, and in which every other true story finds its meaning.

That is the story of God’s determination to glorify Himself by saving sinners through the atonement accomplished by His own Son.  As Christ Himself made clear, every word of Scripture serves to tell this story.

In its irreducible from, this story contains at least four major chapters or movements. In the first, Creation, God creates the cosmos and everything within it out of nothing.  He creates everything that exists by the power of His Word, and He finds it greatly pleasing. He creates all forms of life, and creates human beings uniquely in His own image, granting us the ability to know Him. To Adam and Eve He assigns responsibility to rule over, enjoy , and steward creation, and to multiply.

In the second movement, The Fall, Adam and Eve defy God, disobey His command, and suffer the inevitable consequences of God’s judgment on their sin.  They retain God’s image, but it is corrupted by sin.  They are cast out of the garden and must work by the sweat of their brows.  They will now know death and every physical infirmity that comes with mortality. All of natures shares in the suffering, and natures now know fury, decay, and trouble.  Every single human being is born into a conspiracy of sin from which there is no rescue.

Thankfully, God’s plan to save sinful humanity is accomplished in the third movement, Redemption.  This was promised in the Old Testament, but was fulfilled with the coming of Christ, fully God and fully man, who lived a sinless life and went obediently to suffer death on a cross, dying in our place.  God saves us by accepting the substitutionary sacrifice of Christ as full payment of the penalty of sin, and he raised Christ from the dead on the third day, announcing to all the vindication and completion of the Son’s saving work.  Salvation is declared to all who believe on His name and confess Him as Savior and Lord.

But this is no the end of the story.  In the fourth movement, Consummation, God Brings everything to a perfect conclusion with the coming of Christ, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, the division of all humanity in o either heaven or hell, and the inauguration of a New Creation, ruled over by Christ and His redeemed people.  Death and sickness are no more, and all things are bought to their proper conclusion by the sovereign power of God.  Among Christ’s people, every eye is dry as every tear is wiped away.

This is the greatest story ever told. As Christians, we are to find our identity and meaning in this story and in no other story. It is to be the story that frames our thinking, our living, and our leading. This is the story that tells us who we are, how we got here, and where we are going.  This story is the truest and most powerful of all stories.  It is also what allows us to die, knowing that the story will survive us and that we are still a part of this story even after our death!

Dacono Colorado Churches

We at Firestone Baptist Church believe:

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God in all parts and wholly without error.

We believe that the Bible is the sole of authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:15, Psalm 119:60)

We believe in the one true God, who is the first person of the Trinity; perfect, infinite, and eternal. He is revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Isaiah 45:22, Deuteronomy 32:4, Romans 11:33, Psalm 90:2)

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the second person of the Trinity, the Eternal Word and only begotten Son. He became man by the miracle of the virgin birth; true God and true man. (John 1:1, Isaiah 7:14)

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity; that He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. (John 16:8)

We believe that all men, by nature and choice, are sinful and lost; that man is the direct creation of God, made in His image and likeness. (Romans 3:23, Genesis 1:27)

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (Acts 2:18-26; Rom. 3:24-25; 1 Pet. 2:24; Eph. 1:7; 1 Pet. 1:3-5).

We believe salvation is by grace through faith and is a free gift of God, neither merited nor secured by any virtue or work of man; received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23, Titus 3:5)

We believe that repentance is required for salvation.( 2Peter 3:9, 2 Corinthians 7:10, Acts 17:30)

We believe in the imminent, bodily, and premillennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in the air to catch away all believers unto Himself; and in the personal, visible, and glorious return of Christ to the earth, with believers, to judge the nations and to set up His millennial Kingdom on earth. (Matthew 24:42-44; John 14:3; Acts 1:11; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 19:11-16; 20:4-6)

We believe that God hates divorce and intends marriage to last until one of the spouses dies. Although divorced and remarried persons or divorced persons may hold positions of service in a church and be greatly used of God for Christian service, they may not be considered for the offices of pastor or deacon of a church. (Malachi 2:14-17; Matthew 19:3-12; Romans 7:1-3; I Timothy 3:2, 12; Titus 1:6)
